PIP PIPER FILM

30 YEARS in the MAKING
Crafting Film & Growing People

I am a Director, Producer, Executive Producer specialising in feature documentaries.

I love collaborating , finding unique stories and people and developing those into engaging films, short or long whilst helping see others and myself grow along the way.

My work spans 30 years , from the fledging OSBD media charity which started when I was a full-time youth worker at a large church in Birmingham back in the mid 1990’s ( it finally ended in 2025). OSBD was innovative, many said ahead of its time as we created films and resources for youth work and helped develop young people in their film making journeys. Then, in 2008 came the creative and commercial work with Blue Hippo Media , working with Rob Taylor and Sarah Green and some very talented young creatives , David Cawley , Nina Jones and Luke Furmage. Blue Hippo moved into full cinema released and TV films, which I produced and at times directed. My work has always been deliberately collaborative , working , learning and being supported by others along the way. I have had the privilege of filming across the world from shanty towns in Peru and a maximum security prison in Ukraine, to the USA , South Korea , Europe and NZ and many more places with incredible stories and people.

I have also spent the past 30 years mentoring and helping develop emerging film talent. I have set up film festivals, a master’s degree in film distribution and developed film and media strategies for the West Midlands and Devon. I currently help run Doc Lab a free monthly gathering for doc filmmakers in Exeter.

Crafting Film

I have produced and directed 100’s of films including many feature documentaries for cinema and TV on various topics from record shops and the vinyl explosion to the history of mountain biking, solo climbing and art, cycling and water pollution campaigning , garnering critical acclaim and multiple awards.

My debut feature drama film, The Insatiable Moon, coproduced with Tim Sanders (Lord of the Rings) and filmed in New Zealand was released theatrically in the UK and NZ and went on to win the prestigious Moondance Festival USA and 4 NZ National Film awards.

My latest film is out in cinemas now , spring /summer 2026. Jo in the Water follows a passionate activist as she campaigns for clean waters in our rivers , lakes and sea.

Growing People

I have been training , developing and mentoring novice and emerging talent for many years through a variety of ways.
I want to continue this through one to one mentoring : webinars and offering help and access to work alongside me where possible.

Get in touch to find out how I can help you.

I also want to offer some insights over my 30 years of being in the industry. I am going to do this through substack where I will regularly update my thoughts and also bring in others to share too. A place where you can gain knowledge and critical information for your own filmmaking journey.

What I want to do now is …….

As well as continuing to develop cinema films I want to make a series of short documentary films (5-10mins) over the coming years. One every 6 week’s or so to the new PIPPIPERFILM branded YouTube channel. Free to watch and share and use in anyway. These would be beautifully crafted with big impact as I very carefully curate the stories to tell. I would film mostly on my iPhone and edit myself, a new venture but if funds allowed bring others into help too.

I want to make authentic handmade films about an eclectic mix of people / issues that speak of something important into culture and life.

This is a time when there is a real need for trusted, authentic, impactful media that resonates deeply with us all. I know I can do that and can build upon it. Growing an audience. Looking to partners and individuals with big reach to help amplify what I am doing. Maybe you want to share that journey with me?

Well if you do and also If you can help me fund this by making a one off or regular monthly donation please get in touch

Thank you.
